How, when & why did you get started in the mortgage industry?
I started my career in October 2000. My triplets were born in February of the same year. Household expenses skyrocketed, and income plummeted, so I took on five jobs until I could earn enough income to sustain myself in the mortgage industry.
Why NewFed? How long have you been here?
This January was officially 5 years. Brian and Eric made me laugh for an entire hour the 1st time we met, so I knew it was the place for me. The NewFed team as a whole, the company’s family culture, transparency, and communication have all kept me here.
What has been your most rewarding experience working with a client? Share a success story.
The most rewarding experience was the most challenging in my career. Referred by a CPA, there were multiple domino purchase transactions involved. We all worked feverishly for 60-plus days with first-time homebuyers. They were self-employed borrowers with no permanent residency, expired driver’s licenses, expired work authorization cards, COVID restrictions, no IRS transcripts due to IRS shutdowns and delays, and owed IRS debt. This deal died several times. However, our NewFed team got it done, and we closed!
What continues to motivate you? What do you like about what you do best?
The industry is everchanging and challenging. I’m always learning and never bored. The long-term friendships and connections I have made keep me motivated the most. It is rewarding in so many ways to feel needed and help people achieve financial freedom and flexibility.
What’s the last book you read or podcast you listened to?
The last book was Stephen R. Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. And the last podcast was my son’s sports podcast. He is a reporter and anchor for Channel 7 KPLC in Louisiana!
Describe an interesting hobby or pastime that you have.
I love hiking with my sons and playing racquetball with friends. Lately, I have been going to Par28 in Salem with my son. They have a golf simulator & axe throwing!
What brought you to the city/town where our office is located?
Brian D’Amico! I didn’t want to move my office, but I am very happy I did.
What (if any) local community organizations are you affiliated with?
North Andover Merchants Association, our local Chamber of Commerce, NAHREP.
What’s a cause that you are passionate about?
The Alzheimer’s Association and Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. Our family was affected by this terrible disease. Our family will frequently walk for the cause, and we also run 45’s tournaments to raise money.
What are some of your favorite local spots to visit?
Galleria Ulmberto and Moderno pastry on Hanover Street, Boston. I’ve been going there since I was a kid with my dad. Sevmar restaurant in Salem, New Hampshire, has great Mediterranean cuisine!
How, when & why did you get started in the mortgage industry?
I started in the mortgage industry in the Fall of 2003 after purchasing my first home. I had been working for a local retail bank and got to know and work with my loan officer very well. So well, I began taking applications in my branch for purchases, refinances & equity lines of credit with the LO’s permission. She initially guided me into the home financing industry, and I found it rewarding to help people with their new home purchase or refinance.
Why NewFed? How long have you been here?
I came to NewFed in February 2019 after my previous employer merged with another local bank. During the initial acquisition, I met and spoke with Eric Portnoy and Brian D’Amico. The culture here was what I was looking for. The transition just made sense and “felt right.”
What has been your most rewarding experience working with a client? Share a success story.
There have been several! One of my favorites include a recent first-time homebuyer we helped with our NewFed National Down Payment Assistance Program. This program worked best for them as they kept falling outside of the guidelines for other DPA programs that we offer here at NewFed since
their DTI was over 45%, and our program goes up to 50%.
